On August 27, 2025, a delegation from the Mekong Institute – Can Tho University paid a visit and held a working session with the People’s Committee of Thanh Xuan Commune, Can Tho City, aiming to discuss and promote cooperation in research, application of science and technology, and digital transformation in support of sustainable socio-economic development at the local level.
Attending the meeting, on behalf of Thanh Xuan Commune People’s Committee, were Mr. Ngo Van Tu – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Commune People’s Council; Mr. Truong Hoai Phong – Standing Vice Chairman of the Commune People’s Committee; along with representatives of relevant local departments and units.
On behalf of the Mekong Institute, participants included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Van Pham Dang Tri – Director of the Institute; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Canh Dung; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh; and Mr. Phan Ky Trung, M.Sc.
The discussion focused on assessing the current status of science and technology application and digital transformation in Thanh Xuan Commune, identifying challenges and constraints at the grassroots level, and determining local needs, strengths, and potentials to help shape research orientations and propose appropriate technology application models. The delegation also exchanged views on the application of high technology in agriculture, solutions for transferring research outcomes into practical production and management, as well as the organization of short-term training and capacity-building programs for commune officials.
Another key focus of the meeting was the discussion of coordination mechanisms between the Mekong Institute and Thanh Xuan Commune People’s Committee in developing and implementing scientific research projects at various levels, along with long-term cooperation orientations based on a model that links scientists, grassroots authorities, and local communities for sustainable local development.
📍 The working session opened up practical cooperation directions, reaffirming the Mekong Institute’s commitment to bringing science closer to practice and accompanying local authorities and communities in the process of digital transformation, innovation, and sustainable development in the Mekong Delta as well as the Mekong River Basin.
