On 14 September 2025, the leadership of the Mekong Institute held a working session with Professor Alaina Ammit, Interim Pro-Vice-Chancellor of University of Technology Sydney (UTS), together with members of the visiting delegation.

During the meeting, both parties exchanged insights into their respective strengths, visions, missions, and core values in institutional development. From this foundation, they identified opportunities to foster long-term, in-depth cooperation in scientific research, multisector training, technology transfer, and innovation.

The two sides agreed to advance concrete collaborations in several priority areas, including:

  • Greenhouse gas emission reduction in agriculture and aquaculture.
  • Climate change impacts adaptation and mitigation.
  • Applications of remote sensing and artificial intelligence for forecasting and risk reduction.
  • Promoting soft-collaboration and multilateral linkages in sustainable development.

Joint expert groups are further agreed to be established to co-design actionable plans for bilateral research collaboration.

Following discussions, the Mekong Institute leadership introduced UTS leadership to several prominent spaces currently managed by the Institute, including Rice Culture Space, Experimental Farming Systems Site, and the Innovation Hub. Professor Ammit expressed strong support and commitment to fostering subsequent collaborations in the co-development of these meaningful, practice-oriented spaces.

The visit and working session of Professor Ammit and the UTS delegation have opened new prospects for long-term collaboration, reaffirming the Mekong Institute’s pivotal role as a connector contributing to the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta and the wider Greater Mekong Subregion.
