From October 22–24, 2025, within the Water Tech Innovation Lounge – Vietwater 2025 organized by The Water Agency in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands 🇳🇱 in Vietnam, the Mekong Researchers team from the Mekong Institute – Can Tho University was proudly selected as one of the six official participating teams.
The Innovation Lounge is designed as a space where ideas meet opportunity — connecting youth, researchers, businesses, and policymakers to co-create sustainable water and climate solutions for Vietnam and the region. The event also marks the 15th anniversary of the Vietnam–Netherlands Strategic Partnership, celebrating a key milestone in sustainable development cooperation.
Representing the Mekong Researchers are:
• Nguyễn Đức Trung – BA in Interpretation & Translation, Can Tho University
• Lê Huy Bảo Điền – Student in Information Security, Can Tho University
• Trần Nguyễn Hoàng Long – Environmental & Natural Resources Engineer, Can Tho University
Throughout the three-day event, the team showcased their project “Smart Flood Monitoring & Early Warning System for the Mekong Delta” at the Netherlands Pavilion — attracting strong interest from visitors and international organizations.
On the morning of October 22, the team had the honor to present their idea to Ms. Merel van der Ven – First Secretary of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Vietnam, and Mr. Sander Carpay – Representative of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. The project leverages sensor technology and data modeling to enhance disaster preparedness and support climate-resilient livelihoods for Mekong communities.
On the afternoon of October 24, the team advanced to the innovation pitch round alongside representatives from multiple universities — and won the People Choice Award, presenting a vision for smart water governance and climate adaptation in the Mekong region.
💧 This event stands as a testament to the creativity, resilience, and determination of the young generation of the Mekong Delta — those who are shaping a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for Vietnam and beyond.
