In response to the increasingly evident impacts of climate change in the Mekong Delta, the Mekong Institute of Can Tho University, in collaboration with the Center for Women’s Development in the Mekong Delta, has officially launched the project “Empowering Climate-Resilient Women – Transforming Livelihoods through Indigenous Resources (WILA)”. The project is funded by the Embassy of Canada in Vietnam through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
The project will be implemented from December 2025 to February 2027, under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Dang Tri, Director of the Mekong Institute, Can Tho University. Project activities will be carried out at Hoa De Agriculture and Fisheries Cooperative, Hoa Tu Commune, Can Tho City.
The project aims to enhance climate resilience for women and vulnerable groups through learner-centered approaches, the development of circular and climate-adaptive livelihood models, and the strengthening of women’s roles in community development.
Key project activities include:
- Conducting community consultations and providing information on circular and climate-resilient livelihood models.
- Developing and piloting sustainable and climate-adaptive livelihood models.
- Organizing workshops to share results and lessons learned from the implementation of sustainable and climate-resilient livelihood models.
The project is implemented through close collaboration among stakeholders at multiple levels, from community-based organizations to academic institutions, to ensure effectiveness, sustainability, and scalability. Hoa De Agriculture and Fisheries Cooperative is the direct beneficiary, where the project will support the implementation and piloting of livelihood models. The project is expected to establish pilot models that promote gender equality, enhance women’s leadership, and foster sustainable livelihood development in the Mekong Delta.
