On July 4, 2026, the Mekong Institute - Can Tho University, in collaboration with the Mekong Delta Women's Development Center and the People's Committee of Ninh Quoi Commune, organized a training workshop titled “Vegetable livelihood in acid sulfate lowlands”. This is a key activity under the project "Women-led green livelihood transformation in the acid sulphate soil area of the Mekong Delta – Ninh Quoi commune, Ca Mau Province". The project is funded by the "Promoting Women-Led Green Transformation Initiatives" (PWG) project. The PWG project is a component of the "Women-Led Green Partnership Program," funded by the European Union and implemented by Oxfam in Vietnam.
The training program was directly led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Thi Bich Thuy, a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Crop Sciences, College of Agriculture, Can Tho University and attracted over 30 delegates, including local households from the Ninh Quoi community, as well as officials from the Women's Union, Youth Union, Farmers' Union, and representatives of the Ninh Quoi People's Committee. Unlike the conventional one-way theoretical lectures of the past, the highlight of this training session was its highly interactive and practical approach. Participants worked directly with the expert to build a "Crops – Seasonality – Challenges" cultivation map. The trainees enthusiastically shared that this method helped them identify the causes of failure in previous crop seasons and actively voice their opinions and actual needs, rather than just passively listening to lectures.
🎯 Expected Outcomes:
- Provided technical guidance on vegetable cultivation adapted to acid sulfate lowland conditions.
- Contributing to improved income and sustainable livelihoods for women and vulnerable groups in rural areas.
- Supported the establishment of safe, highly economically efficient household-scale vegetable production models.
The program promises to open up a new path, empowering farmers in Ninh Quoi Commune to master farming techniques and sustainably develop their household economy!
