On the morning of April 2, 2026, the Mekong Institute – Can Tho University, in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Protection of Can Tho City, organized a stakeholder consultation meeting under the theme: “Consultation on Opportunities to Enhance the Value of Recyclable Waste in Can Tho City.” This activity is part of the project titled “Developing a Database on Plastic Waste and Recycling Towards Connecting and Enhancing the Value of Recyclable Waste in Can Tho,” within the framework of the Urban Ocean program implemented by the Mekong Institute in partnership with the University of Georgia and the Department of Environmental Protection of Can Tho City.
The event was attended by representatives from government agencies, local authorities, businesses, researchers, and scrap collection facilities across the city. During the meeting, the research team presented the preliminary findings of the project, followed by discussions on opportunities and solutions to enhance the value of plastic waste and recyclable materials, contributing to the promotion of a circular economy in Can Tho City.
Many participants emphasized the importance of strengthening multi-sectoral collaboration, improving the waste database system, and fostering connections among stakeholders in the collection, sorting, and recycling chain. These are considered essential foundations for proposing appropriate solutions and models, aiming toward sustainable waste management and green urban development in the future.
