During a survey visit by Husk Dynamics (South Korea) from July 7 - 9, 2026 to the Mekong Delta, Husk Dynamics and the Mekong Institute at Can Tho University met to agree on a cooperation direction for research and technology transfer in converting rice husks into environmentally friendly, multifunctional composite materials. The goal is to apply circular economy principles to rice husks, increase the value of agricultural by-products, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to growth in the Mekong Delta region.
At the meeting, Husk Dynamics presented its technological capabilities for converting rice husks into panels and circular material boards that can replace wood and petroleum-based materials, while also helping to store carbon in biomass. As an interdisciplinary regional development research unit under Can Tho University, the Mekong Institute plays a role in connecting scientists, training institutions, and international partners to help evaluate and promote the application of technological solutions suited to local realities.
Both sides agreed that this is an important foundation for Husk Dynamics to connect with Can Tho University's knowledge and expert ecosystem as it implements pilot projects in the region.
On that basis, the two sides agreed to prioritize discussion of three main areas. First, Husk Dynamics introduced its rice husk material technology, while the Mekong Institute shared expert perspectives on the characteristics of rice husk generation, management, and use in the Mekong Delta. Second, the two sides discussed and consulted on the feasibility of applying the technology locally, in line with regional raw material conditions and market needs. Third, the two sides discussed potential directions for future collaborative research, laying the groundwork for the project's next steps.
Both sides agreed to continue discussions to build a long-term cooperation program, in which the Mekong Institute will serve as the focal point connecting Husk Dynamics with training institutions, expert teams from Can Tho University, and local stakeholders; Husk Dynamics will contribute its technological experience and international partner network to jointly implement pilot models in the region.
This cooperation model is expected to create an effective bridge between research and application in producing environmentally friendly products from agricultural by-products, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing income, and promoting sustainable development for the Mekong Delta region.
