On August 27, 2026, the Mekong Institute - Can Tho University, in collaboration with the Mekong Delta Women's Development Center and the People's Committee of Ninh Quoi Commune, organized a study tour on green production models and community livelihoods. This is a key activity under the project “Women-led green livelihood transformation in the acid sulphate soil area of the Mekong Delta – Ninh Quoi commune, Ca Mau Province”. The project is funded by the “Promoting Women-Led Green Transformation Initiatives” (PWG) project. The PWG project is a component of the "Women-Led Green Partnership Program," funded by the European Union and implemented by Oxfam in Vietnam.

The delegation comprised 15 representatives from the People's Committee, the Women's Union, the Farmers' Union, the Youth Union of Ninh Quoi commune, local cooperatives, cooperative groups, and project staff. The program focused on a field visit to study practical experiences at the My Quoi Livelihood Cooperative (Can Tho City) and Mekong Livelihood Solution JSC. Key highlights of the trip:

  • Exploring operational models and hands-on crafting: Participants learned about production organization models that create jobs for women, toured material processing workflows, and directly practiced crafting products using local eco-friendly materials such as bulrush (năn tượng), umbrella papyrus (thủy trúc), cattail (bồn bồn), water hyacinth (lục bình), and sedge (lát).
  • In-depth discussion on sustainable values: Delegates exchanged insights into the value of bulrush as an eco-friendly product solution and discussed orientations for expanding its cultivation to support sustainable livelihoods.

The study tour provided local women and representatives with a clear understanding of traditional handicraft production based on local resources, opening up avenues for green product development and sustainable community livelihoods. Furthermore, this initiative laid an important foundation for strengthening partnership connectivity, vocational training, and market expansion for local cooperatives in the future.
