On June 12, 2026, the Mekong Institute – Can Tho University, in collaboration with the Center for Women’s Development in the Mekong Delta and the People's Committee of Ninh Quoi Commune, organized the kick-off meeting for the project "Women-led green livelihood transformation in the acid sulphate soil area of the Mekong Delta – Ninh Quoi commune, Ca Mau Province". The project is funded by the "Promoting Women-Led Green Transformation Initiatives" (PWG) project. The PWG project is a component of the "Women-Led Green Partnership Program," funded by the European Union and implemented by Oxfam in Vietnam.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Finance, the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Industry and Trade, the Ca Mau Provincial Women's Union, the People's Committee of Ninh Quoi Commune, the Ninh Quoi Commune Women's Union, and members of the Ap Vam Collaborative Group.
The agenda of the kick-off meeting aimed to introduce the PWG project and to discuss and finalize the coordination mechanism between the project implementing unit, local authorities, relevant agencies, and the beneficiary community in Ninh Quoi commune, Ca Mau province. Through this event, the project focused on securing consensus from stakeholders and the beneficiary community regarding green livelihood activities, while building a solid foundation for the effective implementation of project activities.
During the meeting, the parties discussed and noted information and contributions regarding the current realities and major challenges facing the locality. As a result, a high consensus was reached on the action plan. Furthermore, all parties committed to close coordination and maximum resource mobilization to implement the project effectively and deliver the best possible outcomes for the community.
The project is expected to create a model for green livelihood development with the active participation and leadership of women, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the national strategy on climate change adaptation in the Mekong Delta. Additionally, it aims to enhance women's participation in decision-making and environmental-climate change policy planning.
